National Parks in Chile- Also in Chile the times to go camping in a N.P. without a reservation are long gone. This is especially true in the high season. This means making reservations well in advance, especially for the popular parks, which include Parque Nacional Conguillo. The reservation of the campsite (online) still works very well, it is more difficult with the (online) payment. At least that’s how it was when booking this park’s campsite. Fortunately, we have Chilean friends who took care of the payment with the local system “Mercado pago”. Note: Foreign credit cards are accepted for booking the famous Torres del Paine National Park, as there are a lot of foreign tourists coming here. What you also need to know: Operators of the national parks ( mostly CONAF) and operators of the campsites (different depending on the park) are separate companies with their own booking\/payment systems. That is, in addition to the campsite, you have to book an entrance ticket to the park and pay online. We had a reservation for the campground, but not for the park. At the entrance of the park we wanted to pay the ticket in cash. Unfortunately, this was not possible. Since there was no internet connection here, we had to drive back again 30 km to the next town to buy the ticket online. Therefore, our recommendation: If you visit Chilean national parks in the high season (January, February and July), deal with the booking in time.
