Humahuaca in the far northwest of Argentina is a quiet little town where the Andean culture has been well preserved; Here we swapped the roof tent for a cozy guesthouse to explore the surrounding area. The colorful rock formations in the valley “Quebrada de Humahuaca” and from the viewpoint “Mirador de 14 colores (Colors)” are very beautiful. This is followed by a 30 km easy “off road” route at 4,300 m, which the locals drive in a normal car;

The route from Humahuaca to Iruya is far more adventurous; The remote village of Iruya can be reached via a 60 km dirt road from Humahuaca, which leads steeply down into a canyon; Oncoming traffic can be exciting, as a vehicle has to pull over to the side of the road, where it immediately plunges down without any safety barriers; Thrills guaranteed As there is hardly any parking in the village (the place is literally stuck to the cliffs), we took the bus like all the locals. Also an experience. In Iruya we were lucky enough to be able to take part in a festival; Riders (gauchos) from Iruya and the neighboring valleys in traditional costumes showed off their riding skills.
