Continue on the Carretera Austral – from Futalefu to Cerro Castillo (Part 2)

The route from Futalefu to Cerro Castillos first means 80 km on a bad track back to the actual Carretera Austral. A dreamlandscape, always along the Rio Futalefu, but you still can ‘t really enjoy it. Then it ‘ s easy going to Termas Puyuhuapi, where you can relax in hot thermal baths between the fjord and the Pacific rainforest. Shortly before that, a stop where two dropouts produce what is now the best gin in the whole of Chile.

In addition to hot springs, Puyuhuapi is mainly known for the nearby Queulat National Park Green, greener, Queulat. This could be the advertising slogan for the national park. No wonder, it ‘s always raining here . Giant ferns and rhubarb-like plants line the path . A hanging glacier that almost reaches the sea. But this is also declining more and more every year. Nevertheless, a real highlight.

The last part of this stage to Cerro Castillo is less “wild” again “wild” again and the road is ( thankfully ) largely asphalted. The village of Cerro Castillo is about halfway along the Carretera Austral and is perfect for relaxing for a few days and hiking in the Parque Nacional Cerro Castillo, to relax for a few days and hike in the Parque Nacional Cerro Castillo
